The Carroll Tigers Debate team participated in the Western Iowa League of Debate's WILD Virtual 1 tournament on Tuesday, October 11th.
This was a virtual tournament using online meeting rooms that are similar to Google Meet. It was hosted by CAM.
One student participated in Student Congress. This gave her [Sydney] an opportunity to research and debate about proposed new laws through a Mock Congress session. Six CHS students participated in Public Forum debate. They worked in pairs to make a case for or against the current Public Forum Debate topic: Resolved: The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its investment in high-speed rail. One CHS debate pair won both rounds [Boell & Parrott] and two debate pairs won one of two rounds [Hughes & Harrison; Kiger and Koster]. Public Forum students must be prepared to argue for (PRO) or against (CON) a topic because the sides are determined by a coin toss at the beginning of the round. PF Competitors must be flexible to enough to argue both sides, and they must have a thorough knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages on both sides of the assigned topic.
The CHS Team is coached by Jeff Hughes.
